      Information Technology

Our key ICT programmes are in the areas of Expanding & Extending ICT Programmes for students (Achieving Excellence in Student All-round Development), Developing all teachers to be proficient users of ICT (Enhancing Staff Capacity) and Harnessing ICT to improve administrative and operational processes.

The Art and Design & Technology (D&T) Integrated Programme for Lower Secondary students leverages on the use of a 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. The Art department taught the students the finer points of sketching (2-D and 3-D), while the D&T department focused on the design process to inculcate the creative and critical thinking in solving problems through design. Under the theme of “Green Technology”, students design their own solar cars as they attend training on the skills required in computer aided design. They are given student license to install on their computers at home, to do their self-directed learning as they practice on the skills taught and discover more features available from the software. The students are then paired up to compare their designs and to identify the better features from each design. Through this collaborative learning, they then develop the better design, an outcome of the paired work.

Students in Greendale also learn map-mapping as part of the school’s thinking programme. The use of Tony Buzan’s Mind Maping software as a thinking and learning tool is being taught as an integral part of the thinking programme as students build up their repertoire of graphic organizers.

Students have access to a Mathematics e-Learning System, where they learn anytime anywhere. This system includes resources such as animated lessons, interactive activities and a large databank of assessment questions with immediate feedback, including suggested worked solutions. Teachers are also using this system in their classroom teaching and giving out homework. One group of Mathematics teachers in our school Professional Learning Community is also working on a project to explore how ICT in Mathematics can bring about self-directed learning in our students.

Lessons on media literacy are also integrated into our sexuality education programme. As part of the Cyberwellness Programme, all teachers conducted lessons on the different aspects of cyberwellness such as dangers of cyber-contents and internet addiction for all levels. Issues on copyrights are also been addressed in Home Economics lessons.

Customized ICT trainings are also conducted for students, including video-editing, PC maintenance, website design, audio and video broadcasting, digital photography and 2-D stop motion animation.
