Sailing was started in March 2009 to develop the interest and joy of sailing and to provide a platform for students to stretch their potential as sailors when they compete in the National Inter-School Sailing Championships and various Regattas. Good sportsmanship, team spirit and
self-discipline have been greatly emphasized in the pursuit of achieving their personal best.
During weekly training sessions at National Sailing Centre(NSC), the students learn how to manoeuvre the sailboats (Byte Class) by changing the rigging, rudder, and the centre board. They will also need to manage the force of the wind on the sails in order to change the direction and speed of a boat. Mastery of the skill requires experience in varying wind and sea conditions, as well as knowledge concerning sailboats themselves.
At the end of the one year programme, the sailors will take the Level 1 Dinghy Proficiency Certificate Test which will allow them to compete in the Byte Class Sailing Competitions. The school intents to send the sailors for the SSSC National Inter-School Sailing Championships held in April every year and also participate in Regattas throughout the year whenever possible.
The school took part in her first SSSC National Inter-School Sailing Championships held from 20 -23 April 2010. The students participated in the ‘C’ Div Boys and Girls Byte Class and in the Boy’s Team event, they finished a commendable 7th position.
