Greendale @ Floorball

"Floorball, a type of floor hockey, is an indoor team sport which was developed in the 1970s. It is a fast-paced sport, with limited physical contact allowed. Floorball is most popular in areas where the sport has developed the longest, such as Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. The game is played indoors on a gym floor, making it a year-round sport at the amateur and professional levels. The objective of the game is to get the plastic ball into a net with the aid of the stick past a goalkeeper". Adapted from http://en.wikipedia.org

At Greendale, Floorball is played by a group of passionate and enthusiastic players from both genders. For these young players, Floorball is not merely about getting the plastic ball into the net. Instead, through vigourous and meaningful training sessions, important core values such as discipline, resilience, team spirit and ruggedness are instilled in them.

Description of Key Programmes in CCA
At Greendale, Floorball is played by a group of passionate and enthusiastic players from both genders. For these young players, Floorball is not merely about getting the plastic ball into the net. Instead, through vigourous and meaningful training sessions, important core values such as discipline, resilience, team spirit and ruggedness are instilled in them.

Sport-specific skills
Players undergo a 30-week training plan to prepare them for the National Floorball Championships which is held annually. The pre-season training sessions focus on the brushing up the personal skills of the players (ball handling, dribbling, shooting and etc). When the season draws nearer, the coach preps the students by exposing them more to game plays and strategies. An intensive training camp is also planned for the students during this time. After the season, students take a well-deserved break and indulge in other activities.

Other skills
The spirit of serving is also an important value we wish to imbue in our students. As such, our players ‘pay back’ to the community by taking part in Community Involvement Programme (CIP) yearly. Two projects that our students have taken on for the past years are the ‘Happy Toilet Project’ and ‘Learn to Play Floorball @ Greendale Primary’.

Achievements:
Despite not being able to qualify for the second round of tournament in this year’s championships, the players’ spirits are not dampened. The temporary disappointment only serves to motivate the players further so that they will come back next year stronger.

We would also like to congratulate Dennis Lee Yi Le (Class 3A2) and Mohd Azri (Class 5A2) for making it to the training squad of the Singapore Combined Schools Team this year.
