Greendale Chorale

The Greendale Chorale was formed in 2006 and has been striving for greater heights each year. In Greendale Chorale, choristers are developed to be all-rounded, be it at play or at work. They are also groomed to be leaders and to develop confidence of themselves as well as their school.

Under the tutelage of their newly appointed Music Director, Mr. Darius Lim, Greendale Chorale continues to hone their expertise and musicality.

If you love music and enjoy singing, Greendale Chorale is the CCA for you! The holistic and rigorous training programme hones our musicality through solfege training, voice and breathing techniques. To achieve competency in these skills, Greendale Chorale meet twice a week. We also learn to sing a varied repertoire of songs and get the opportunity to perform during school events as well as to participate in choir exchanges with other school choirs.

If you think that Chorale is all work and no play, you are very wrong! We strongly believe in teamwork and many choir outings are organised to help make Chorale a group with strong friendships in the CCA. There are also many opportunities for us to bond during day-training as well as stay-in camps held during school holidays.

An all-girls choir, Greendale Chorale is highly looked upon as an up-and-coming CCA. Recently in July 2010, we represented Greendale Secondary School, as well as Singapore, to participate in a regional competition, Orientale Concentus III, which was held in Yilan, Taiwan. We not only attained a Gold Award in the Equal Voices (Youth) Category, we also emerged as the Category Winner, ahead of choirs from other countries! This was a milestone for Chorale and we look forward to representing the school in more local and overseas competitions in the years to come! This year, we will be gearing up towards the biggest event of all schools in Singapore – SYF Central Judging of Choirs which will be held in April.

The remarkable improvement Greendale Chorale made can be credited to our Music Director, Mr. Darius Lim. Despite his young age, Mr. Lim has earned our respect as he is constantly making headlines in the choir scene. Under his able tutelage, Greendale Chorale will continue to hone our expertise and strives for greater heights. Hesitate no longer! Join Greendale Chorale and experience for yourself!

Description of Key Programmes in CCA:
During choir practices, choristers learn to read solfège and other techniques and skills in singing. Choristers get opportunities to perform during choir exchanges and learn from other school choirs. They also attend concerts by choirs with international singing experience.

In Greendale Chorale, much emphasis is placed on working together as a team. As the choristers prepare for performances and competitions together, they bond as a team. Day-training camps and stay-in camps held during school holidays foster closer rapport between choristers as well as provide continual training to develop vocal and musical knowledge in preparation for upcoming events.

Greendale Chorale also performs in school during events such as Chinese New Year, Honours’ Day, National Day as well as during assembly programmes. In July 2010, Greendale Chorale will be representing Greendale Secondary School to participate in a regional competition, Orientale Concentus III, which will be held in Yilan, Taiwan.

Choristers also gain community involvement experience by planning the Service Learning programme. In 2008 and 2009, Sec 1 and 2 choristers helped underachieving Primary school pupils to improve their academic performance through peer tutoring in Mathematics. Choristers learnt to demonstrate the school’s core values by showing care and concern towards the younger students.

Achievements:
Greendale Chorale obtained a Certificate of Participation in SYF Central Judging in 2007 and did the school proud by achieving a Bronze in SYF Central Judging in 2009.
